Saturday 3 July - Sleepy, sleepy, sleepy

It was a quiet day with no drama, Franny drifting in and out of sleep and us doing our best to comfort her inbetween. Dr Park stopped by and was pleased with her progress. My cousin Ger arrived from New York and was amazed when Franny, clearly in pain and still heavily wired up reassured Ger she "was absolutely fine" and asked Ger "did you have a nice flight?". I am so proud of Francesca, she is being so brave.

Sunday 4 July - Finding her feet!
We had a really, really bad morning. Franny was running a fever and was extremely weak. The only word I can find to describe her is broken, big wild eyes and very distressed. She is such a bubbly little girl and it was painful to see her like this. The physio came at 10am and with a lot of help, we got her out of bed and into her wheelchair. We were very nervous about handling her but managed OK and every lift will get better. We took her up to the huge physiotherapy room on the 4th floor which was very bright and jam packed full of fun toys. I was really upset leaving her for a lunchtime nap, I was really shocked and worried.

I'm relieved to report however that after lunch and some medication Franny was like a different little girl. Her fever had gone and although still very weak, she was much more alert and even started bossing me about! We got her back in the wheelchair and went up to show her the beautiful garden on the 8th floor. Franny said it felt good to feel the sunshine and I was so happy to see her smiling. We got back to the room and played a game of 'Candyland' with Taylor who is seven and gave us a thrashing. Franny was not pleased. This was a good sign. It was a great afternoon and evening with Franny slowly finding her feet again. How apt for Independance Day.
